Braces – Friendly Spring Recipes

The doctors and staff at Oral Health Associates are pleased that spring is almost here just as we are sure most of our patients are! Soon the snow will melt away and be replaced by the wonderful sight of green grass and blooming flowers! We thought this would be a great time to share a couple braces-friendly recipes with you here that are perfect for springtime. These are healthy recipes that are easy to make plus they have been given the “green light” by your friendly Green Bay family dentist who says they are safe to eat while wearing braces!

Light & Easy Spring Rolls

These fresh spring rolls are healthy, easy to make, and filled with yummy ingredients that are sure to leave a smile on your face.

Directions:

First, buy some rice paper wrappers (6-inch size is best) and be sure you have a few ingredients for the filling which may include cooked & peeled shrimp, pieces of avocado, red pepper, thinly sliced/julienned carrot and cucumbers as well as a few tasty herbs like basil, cilantro or mint. You’ll also need a nice Asian dipping sauce like smooth peanut sauce, hoisin sauce or soy sauce.

To get started making your spring rolls, prepare and mix together your filling ingredients in a large bowl and set aside. Take the wrappers out of the package and dip them carefully in warm water, one by one, until they soften slightly. Then lay each rice paper wrapper onto a clean flat surface and place a bit of your filling onto the wrapper, being careful not to add too much. Carefully roll everything up tightly like a burrito. Continue this process until all the wrappers and filling are used. Serve with dipping sauce and enjoy. (recipe source: adapted from a recipe at Sally’s Baking Addiction).

One16 oz bottle of creamy Italian salad dressing
1 can of tuna (6 oz), drained
