Braces-Friendly Fall Recipes

Thanksgiving is fast approaching, which means many of us are making plans to get together with loved ones to give thanks and enjoy turkey dinner with all the trimmings! The doctors and staff at our Green Bay dentist office want all our patients and their families to have a wonderful Thanksgiving! But for those of you who are wearing braces, Thanksgiving may present some problems as you may think you cannot enjoy all the delicious foods that help make this November holiday special.

However, we have good news for you! While it is true that you do have to avoid eating some foods that can damage or break your braces, such as hard, crunchy, and sticky foods, there are many foods you still can enjoy. Here are some braces-friendly Thanksgiving fall recipes to consider trying this year:

Cheesy Broccoli Patties

These easy to make broccoli and cheese patties are perfect for the Thanksgiving table. They are so tasty that you might want to double or triple the amount you make as even your family and friends not wearing braces will want some too!

Ingredients:

  • 16 oz package of frozen chopped broccoli (thawed & drained)
  • 1 ½ cups grated cheddar cheese
  • 3 eggs
  • Salt and pepper
  • 1 cup seasoned breadcrumbs

Directions:

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Mix all ingredients together in large bowl. Form small patties and place on parchment-covered baking sheet. Bake for 15 minutes, then turn the patties over. Continue baking for another 10–15 minutes until lightly browned.

Spicy Baked Apples In A Bag

While everyone else is enjoying sticky pecan pie and apple pie with thick crust that can bust your braces, you can dig into this warm and delicious dessert that is a breeze to make.

Ingredients:

  • 1 large apple
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • ¼ teaspoon cinnamon
  • ¼ tablespoon cornstarch

Directions:

Cut the apple into slices. Then put the apple slices and the rest of the ingredients into a Ziploc bag and seal closed. Shake it up gently and microwave for 2 minutes on High. When done, be careful when opening the bag as the steam will be hot! Pour the contents of the bag into a bowl, top with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream and enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 8 carrots, peeled
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • ¼ cup honey
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Place the whole carrots in a baking dish. Drizzle with olive oil and mix until the carrots are completely covered.
